Alcan engineers have proven that lightweight materials can be effectively applied to yield excellent results in many sub-assemblies, from vehicle structures to chassis systems and power train. As a result, greater levels of performance in weight reduction, safety and structural strength are achieved.

Our primary focus is on the development of cost-effective lightweight components for major systems including crash management systems (such as front and rear bumper systems and side-impact beams), instrument panel supports, chassis and suspension parts.

Aluminium structures often provide the performance equivalent to steel, at half the weight. Key advantages for the automotive industry:

  • thin-walled components manufactured from specialised extrusions offer controlled energy absorption capacity and excellent weldability
  • bumper systems and side-impact beams show exceptional energy absorption capabilities
